Anxiety Therapy

Have Fear And Worry Become The New Normal In Your Life?

Are anxiety and self-doubt compromising your relationships, undercutting your professional ambitions, or getting in the way of your creative pursuits? Do you sometimes feel so preoccupied with negative, worrisome thoughts that you cannot really relax and let your guard down?

Perhaps you experience a general sense of unease that’s hard to transcend, making it difficult to find peace and poise in your life. Or maybe you feel out of touch with yourself or your feelings, and you want to deepen your emotional experience by understanding what’s really going on.

Anxiety Symptoms Can Emerge In Myriad Ways

For instance, you may spend a lot of time scanning the horizon for danger and hashing out worst-case scenarios—even under ordinary circumstances. You may have trouble feeling grounded and capable of sitting with your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs without becoming overwhelmed.

On a relational level, you may find it difficult to calmly and intimately dwell with your partner, friends, or colleagues without trying to please everyone or fix everything. And physically, you may be experiencing odd stomach pains, muscle tension, or headaches that come and go without explanation.

Anxiety Can Have A Resonating Impact On A Person’s Life

But it’s also one of the most treatable mental health concerns out there. So if you are ready to find a sense of ease and spaciousness within yourself—a feeling that you’re ultimately going to be okay no matter what happens—anxiety therapy can help.

Working together, you can gain a deeper understanding of your emotions, become more confident in your ability to manage adversity, and finally establish a space of grounding within yourself.

Anxiety Disorders Are Widely Common, Yet Highly Treatable

Anxiety is extremely prevalent in our society—and for many folks, it’s a seemingly inescapable part of life. After all, many elements of contemporary culture actively encourage anxiety.

Cell phones and smart devices bark out never-ending strings of alerts. Toxic elements of the social media landscape promote conflict and self-doubt. Perpetual news cycles induce fear and uncertainty in their attempts to keep our continual attention. And we’re misled by consumerist ideals that promise calm and peace through products that ultimately don't deliver over the long term.

Then there are the overarching impacts of climate change, gun violence, economic worries, and the pandemic. And there are also the impacts of stressful, traumatic, or confusing life experiences that we’ve had, either recently or long ago. These may continue to cause anxiety, sometimes without us knowing how or why.

All of these factors play a huge part in anxiety and how it develops.

Unfortunately, There Are Not A Lot Of Spaces That Offer Calm From The Storm

And because anxiety is so woven into our culture, many people don’t interpret their anxiety symptoms for what they are. Instead, they overlook the worry and unease, thinking—This is just the way things are. As a result, it becomes difficult to understand that living with anxiety, fear, and self-doubt is a painful way of being—and that relief is possible.

However, you can learn to live with greater ease and peace of mind. With my support, anxiety therapy can help you understand what is driving this painful experience and offer you ways of effectively working with and managing your deeper, more intense emotions.

Anxiety Therapy Offers You An Ally Who Can Help You Bear Your Pain As You Heal

Anxiety can be very fracturing and destabilizing, so counseling serves as a space that contains the experience and enables you to feel your emotions and express your fears without being threatened by them. Working with a therapist gives you a calm and caring environment in which to explore and fully address any thoughts, feelings, or experiences that may sit beneath the anxiety.

I also want to help you increase your capacity for embracing stillness, knowing yourself fully, and deepening your relationships with friends and partners. I want to give you a space for professional and creative growth—and a chance to become a more emotionally-integrated person so you can experience joy, hope, and even sorrow without anxiety interrupting.

Therapy isn’t solely about lessening the physical symptoms of anxiety; it’s also about learning how to navigate stressful situations and experience life without feeling overwhelmed. It’s about being able to finally move through this world without so much fear and trepidation.

In our sessions, we’ll dive straight into the therapeutic process, addressing the unique ways in which anxiety is impacting your life. By organically finding our way toward healing together, you can experience a greater sense of ease, calm, and inner spaciousness in your life.

How My Anxiety Counseling Sessions Work

Every situation is unique, so sessions can take different directions depending on the patient. That’s why we’ll work together to follow the thread wherever it leads.

Some days, we may focus on exploring aspects of your past to shed light on what drives your anxiety. On other days, we may target specific challenges that come up between sessions. Though ultimately, we want to move toward examining deeper feelings and underlying experiences contributing to the main issue, we’ll also be easing the impact and symptoms of anxiety as we go.

Because everyone’s experience with anxiety is different, I’ll work with you in ways that are congruent with your values, goals, and who you are as a person. To do that, I’ll draw from a range of diverse therapeutic interventions and theories, including contemporary psychoanalytic and psychodynamic approaches, elements of control mastery, relational theory, intersubjectivity, attachment theory, EMDR, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

I’m also culturally sensitive and empathic in my approach to therapy, which enables me to be fully present with my patients and attune to their experiences. Whether we’re addressing something positive, negative, scary, or exciting, I encourage my patients to talk openly about anything that is on their minds. And because it can be such a huge part of who we are as individuals, I also enjoy learning about my patients’ spiritual beliefs and how these inform their lives.

Although therapy provides valuable resources and strategies for coping with anxiety, it’s also about something much bigger. Anxiety counseling is about reinforcing feelings of containment—increasing your capacity to experience emotions more deeply while also giving you the ability to take a break from them when you need to.

I know that you probably feel stuck right now, but anxiety is very treatable with therapy. With my help, it is possible to get out from beneath the weight of constant worry and start living with greater ease and calm. At the same time, you have the chance to deepen your relationships with others, heal the wounds of the past, and truly understand yourself so you can move through this world with a sense of empowerment and agency.

Perhaps You Are Considering Anxiety Counseling, But You Still Have Concerns…

I don’t know what to say or where to begin in anxiety therapy.

We can start anywhere, with whatever comes up—whether it’s about the past, the future, or how you feel at the moment. It’s also okay to be still and quiet. So we’ll approach anxiety counseling organically, taking it step by step. All paths tend to be connected, and as long as we work together, we’ll get to where we need to be.

These are stressful times for everyone, so maybe I’m just making a big deal out of nothing.

Yes, anxiety is prevalent, but no one deserves to live in pain—no matter how seemingly mild or severe. Plus, when you are dealing with anxiety, the feeling can become so normal that it makes it hard to imagine the possibility of feeling better—even with counseling.

However, working with an anxiety therapist can help you cultivate greater feelings of peace, groundedness, and an expansive sense of self. It may be hard to imagine, but you can feel better—and you deserve that as much as anyone else.

Is anxiety therapy really worth the time and money?

While it’s perfectly natural to have doubts or questions about therapy, working with a therapist is truly an invaluable resource for overcoming anxiety. Once you get started, I’m confident you’ll discover that its benefits extend across many aspects of your life, including your career, relationships, personal goals, and creative pursuits. As anxiety lessens, you’ll free up more space and energy within you, enabling you to know yourself better, to be more in touch with your emotions, and—ultimately—to feel more alive!
